  24.   I have been trying to get Zmodem working with Kermit failing miserably.  
  25. It looks like a problem with re-direction, but I'm not and even more 
  26. unsure of how to correct it.  I need a communcations package that will 
  27. allow me to use Zmodem and has the scripting capabilities so that I can 
  28. automate a download.  I do know about Pro-Yam, but they do not have a 
  29. compiled version for AIX and it is only available in source form.  There 
  30. is also not a heck of a lot of information on their Web site describing 
  31. the product.  Anyways, enough rambling.  Idealy it would be nice to get 
  32. Zmodem working with Kermit.  I have the following environment and if 
  33. anyone can assist, I would appreciate it.

  35. AIX 4.1.4
  36. Kermit v6.0 (binary from Columbia U. and yes I did buy the book :-))
  37. Zmodem v3.44 from the Omen ftp site.
  38. Cardinal 33.6K modem

  40. I've gone through the chapter in the book that talks about using external 
  41. protocols and set Kermit up as it suggested.  Zmodem compiled using gcc, 
  42. without any problems.  I set up kermit using the following:

  44. set file type binary
  45. set proto zmodem {rz -v} {rz -a} {sz %s} {sz -a %s} {rz -v} {rz -a}

  47. I indicate to the remote site that I want to download a file and I put my 
  48. side ready to receive the file and I get the following message in the 
  49. /tmp/rzlog file "Retry 0: Got TIMEOUT".

  51. The site that I am connecting to is a BBS, which does have Kermit, but the 
  52. implementation has a problem, because everytime that I download a file, I 
  53. get a bigger file which is corrupted when I try to uncompress it.

  55. I have the serial connection on the AIX machine setup as 8N1 with hardware 
  56. flowcontrol (actually, I tried xon-xoff as well).

  58. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
